Reporting a Highways or Footpath Fault

Potholes and highways faults are a source of perpetual frustration to all of us. Although the Parish Councillors report faults when we know of a problem anyone can report a fault. We would encourage Parishioners to do so as generally speaking problems with more reports get more attention.

Dangerous faults should be reported immediately by telephone. For example a missing manhole cover, a fallen tree or power line blocking the road would class as an emergency. Full details of what constitutes a dangerous fault and who to call are available here:

Note the County Council consider potholes a ‘non-dangerous fault‘ unless they are deep and on a main road. Non-dangerous highways faults and problems with footpaths are reported to Cambridgeshire County Council online:

Use the controls at the bottom right or the search bar to zoom to are of interest. The map can be panned around by click and dragging. Blue dots show where a problem has already been reported:

Zoom in further and click on the upside down teardrop symbol to show the details of an existing report:

To file a new report (or add another report to an existing fault) click anywhere else on the map. A red pin will appear, if the location isn’t quite correct you can click again to move the pin:

Fill in the box with the description of the problem and your contact details. You can also optionally upload a photograph of the problem if you have one. Please don’t endanger yourself trying to measure or photograph a fault!

Click the ‘Submit Report’ button.

Please consider forwarding the report confirmation email to parish.council@westwickham.org. It helps us work with our county councillor to apply pressure to the Highways Department if things don’t get satisfactorily resolved.

Cllr. Dave Sargeant
Vice Chairman, West Wickham Parish Council
