Green bin fortnightly collections restart 7th March 2022

Green bin collections are due to restart on a fortnightly basis across South Cambridgeshire and Cambridge City on Monday (7 March).

The HGV driver and loader absence issues that Greater Cambridge Shared Waste (GCSW) faced throughout February have improved, although we do still have vacancies, and we now plan to restart green bin collections from Monday. Residents should check their online bin calendars to find their usual collection days as we will be emptying green bins as per the published schedule.

GCSW have contingency plans in place to deal with any unexpected and short notice crew absences. If necessary, this will include crews finishing their normal rounds and then covering parts of any missed areas on the same day. Therefore, even if we find that a particular green bin round cannot initially be serviced, there should be no impact on residents as crews will to work together to cover this on the same day.

So, the main message to residents is to put their green bins out as per the published schedule. We are also pleased to be able to re-introduce the facility for residents to report missed green bins from Monday afternoon. This facility had not been available since the start of the year owing to crew absences. Work is taking place to bring this option back onto the councils’ websites.

If any of the above changes, we will of course let you know. However, GCSW will be trying their utmost to run the green bin service as per the published schedule from this point onwards.

The councils’ websites are being updated to reflect the above information.
